The family as a space: multilingual repertoires, language practices and lived experiences

The field of family language policy has flourished in recent years addressing an ever-increasing breadth transnational populations, types, and linguistic configurations. Furthermore, diverse established innovative methodological approaches have unlatched the door to enhanced understandings multilingualism. A focus on ethnographic is line with current trends sociolinguistic enquiry, providing deep insight into multilingual families, as demonstrated by this thematic issue ‘Exploring repertoire: Ethnographic approaches’, edited Luk Van Mensel Maartje De Meulder. An underlying studies special notion a space, negotiated through repertoire – practices that embrace speakers’ lived experiences. This concluding discussion analyzes ways which four articles address space highlights some more salient aspects deserve further attention, looking beyond at new potential critically
